The Sanctuary of Fátima is the highest point of Catholicism in Portugal. It is a place of devotion and pilgrimage in homage to the Apparitions of Our Lady in 1917. It has been the site of visits by the Popes Paul VI, John Paul II, Benedict XVI and Francis. It is a magnificent monument, an unforgettable visit.
The Church of Santa Maria da Vitoria, better known as the Monastery of Batalha, was built in 1386 as a tribute to the Portuguese victory in the Battle of Aljubarrota. It is the most symbolic Gothic monument in Portugal, a masterpiece of architecture. The visit to the Imperfect Chapels and the Chapel of the Founder are not to be missed.
The Legend of Nazareth, according to which a monk hid in this place the oldest image of Our Lady venerated by Christians, gave rise to this village. The site, with a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean, the Cannon, as Mecca for the surfers of giant waves and the beautiful beach makes visiting Nazaré a must.
Visiting Óbidos means traveling in time. It is one of the most charming medieval villages in the country, surrounded by the walls and the 12th century Castle. Óbidos is the capital of Ginjinha and tasting it´s liqueur is a must. Marvel at the traditional shops, craft shops and the beauty of old streets.
